Validation of a Bingham Snow Model by the MPS Method

YU TAO, SEIICHI KOSHIZUKA

Abstract

This paper aims to validate a MPS Bingham snow model for train safety driving analysis. Fluidized snow is assumed as a Bingham fluid in this study, for which the shear stress is obtained according to the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion and the viscosity terms in the Navier-Stokes equations are discretized using the MPS gradient model. The constitutive Bingham snow model is validated through comparison of numerical simulations with a laboratory experiment in references, good agreement of the impact force has been obtained. The applicability of this MPS Bingham snow model is confirmed, however, validations are still required to make it convincing.
