Non-destructive Evaluation for Chemical Degraded GFRP
Abstract
This paper describes the mechanical properties of GFRP after the immersion test in 10% sodium hydroxide and 30% hydrochloric acid solutions and vapors conditions at 40ºC. The bending strength and the flexural modulus of the sample immerged in sodium hydroxide solution for one month greatly decreased although these of the sample immerged in hydrochloric acid for one month did not change. It was also found that there was a large difference of ultrasonic echo level between before and after immerged samples in sodium hydroxide solution. NaOH is attacked surface of GFRP and HCl is penetrated in GFRP.
