Abstract

Reviewing the constructed structure health monitoring (SHM) system of Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge, the self-developed system frame, hardware and software scheme of this practical project are systematically discussed in this paper. This paper mainly focuses on the technology and features of the Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge SHM system, including system design, application of sensors, data acquisition, data processing, data real-time display and early-warning, data analysis, structure safety assessment. The data acquisition and transmission subsystem based on the industrial Ethernet technology were employed, with IEEE1588 and GPS time service receiver technology. The objectives are to establish the structure safety monitoring and status evaluation system to monitor the structure responses and working conditions in real time and to analyze the structure working status with information obtained from the real data. It will also support scientific decision-making for the bridge maintenance. The performance of the system has achieved the pre-set objectives, ensuring the longterm high reliability, real time concurrence and advanced technology of the SHM system of Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge. It is the first time to implement such a system in domestic China, which provides a reference for the design of an SHM system for a long-span bridge.
