Propagation of Guided Elastic Waves in Aircraft Structural Elements by the Spectral Finite Element Method

A. ZAK, W. OSTACHOWICZ

Abstract

Certain results of numerical simulations obtained by the use of the Spectral Finite Element Method (SFEM) are presented by the authors. They are selected in order to show the effectiveness of the SFEM for investigation of various problems associated with propagation of guided elastic waves in shell-type aircraft structural elements. In this paper a section of the helicopter stabilizer is investigated. Results of these simulations are subsequently evaluated in order to detect and localize simulated damage and compared against results of experimental measurements by the use of laser scanning vibrometry.
