A Multi-Non-Linear Civil SHM Model for Decision Support

H. WENZEL, H. TANAKA, H. ALLMER

Abstract

Civil engineering structures are characterized by numerous non-linearities that make damage detection with subsequent structural health monitoring difficult. Within the large European Research Project IRIS, a generic risk based model has been developed allowing establishing proper decision support for infrastructure owners. The presentation aims to explain the new risk paradigm and the contained non-linear approaches. Examples from various demonstration cases will be shown. The technology has been demonstrated at the following structures: · S101 bridge in Austria with subsequent progressive damage test · Donaukanal-bridges, Vienna · Safepipes-Mockup at MPA Stuttgart An international harmonization drive is underway to allow comparison of the various methodologies.
