Optimal Sensor Placement and Weighted Residual Method in Loads Estimation Supporting Structural Health Monitoring
Abstract
This paper introduces a new methodology for estimating reaction forces going through an aerospace connector in six degrees of freedom (6DOF). The system uses a trained network approach to transform strain measurements from fiber optic gages to forces. A model of the noise is constructed and the uncertainty of the prediction is quantified. Finally, an optimal strain sensor placement algorithm is developed using the weighted residual method. This 6DOF load cell design is being used to support loads tracking for structural health prognosis in the connector.
