Improved Sensor Concepts for Durability Monitoring of Reinforced Concrete Structures
Abstract
Corrosion of the steel reinforcement is as a major problem affecting the durability and structural integrity of reinforced concrete structures. This leads to the need and increasing importance for an integrated non-destructive on site-assessment and longterm monitoring of durability related properties and condition parameters of concrete. In combination with non-destructive visual inspection and appropriate monitoring tools structural defects, degradation processes and damages can be identified at an early stage so that appropriate measures can be taken promptly. In this contribution a package of several newly developed and improved sensorbased measurement techniques for durability and corrosion monitoring of concrete structures will be presented. The thematic focus lays here on the current state of research, essential findings and acquired experiences as well as improvements and further developments of the different embeddable sensor types.
