LONG MA, HOWARD CHUNG, FRANKLIN LI, CAS CHEUNG and AMRITA KUMAR

Abstract

High speed trains operate in harsh and varying operations environments in its service life. Components of high speed train are constantly under severe stresses due to varying loads, varying temperatures, interface conditions, and due to structural design that leads to high stress regions at different locations on the structure. High speed trains are considered as highly dynamic and critical structure that need continuous monitoring of health of different components of the structure. CRRC and Acellent Technologies have developed a concept of operations (CONOPS) of SHM system for monitoring different components of the train structure. This presentation includes case studies of SHM system developed for monitoring critical structures in other industries and the proposed CONOPS for monitoring critical components in a high speed train system will be presented.
