Compression Responses of Brittle Granular Materials Subjected to Dynamic Loading
Abstract
In order to reveal the damage and fracture property of brittle granular materials subjected to dynamic loading, the 3-D Particle Flow Code (PFC) is employed. Three scales, for example stiff balls at the micro scale, particles at the meso scale and specimen at the macro scale, are involved. Platen tests on aggregates indicate the consistency of Weibull modulus between numerical and experimental results, which proves the effectiveness of the cluster model. Based on 1-D-strain compression numeric tests of 300 aggregates, compression behavior and the evolution process of cluster size distribution are obtained. The results are helpful for the understanding of dynamic fragmentation for brittle materials.
