Effect of Active Mineral Filler on Asphalt Mixtures with Acidic Aggregates
Abstract
Active mineral filler’ (AMF) was introduced and applied, with the aim to reduce the level of damage due to moisture in asphalt mixture. Four types of asphalt mixtures (gneiss aggregate and mineral filler, gneiss aggregate and AMF, granite aggregate and mineral filler and granite aggregate and AMF) were prepared. The moisture susceptibilities of all mixtures were evaluated by Marshall stability and immersion rutting test. The results show that the addition of AMF improves the moisture sensitivity of asphalt mixture. Furthermore, the asphalt mixtures consisting of granite are found to be superior to the ones consisting of gneiss for the greater improvement of moisture sensitive.
