Abstract

Surface damage often occurs in the vicinity of the surface layers of a CFRP plate during the trimming process. Since the surface damage degrades with an increasing feed rate of a milling machine, trimming quality issues cannot be neglected in high-cycle manufacturing processes. We previously reported that damages on the cutting surfaces of the specimen reduce its interlaminar shear strength. In this study, we investigate the influence of up- and down cutting process on interlaminar shear strength of CFRP plates. We prepared the specimens processed at three kinds of cutting speeds respectively using up- and down cutting, and interlaminar shear tests with the specimens were performed.
