Extended Abstract - Comparison of Backing Materials Used in the Testing of Ballistic Body Armour
Abstract
This paper provides a summary of a comparative study of three different backing materials that can be used for ballistic testing of body armour. The study used standardised test packs, shot patterns, velocities and test rounds to build a data set. The aim being to understand how these mediums work and their use in the assessment of behind armour blunt trauma. In addition, the data set enables the variance of the different mediums to be greater understood. This is an extended abstract paper and associated poster summarising initial results of work conducted as part of my PhD at Cranfield University. The full paper is planned to be published in early 2018.
