Flight and Penetration Characteristics of Explosively Formed Penetrators
Abstract
Explosively formed penetrators are generally designed to penetrate a target and launched from long distance. Because aerodynamic characteristics of the penetrator affect its penetration ability, research on the flight characteristics is needed. Therefore, in this study, we predict flight characteristics and penetration ability of EFPs using the test and FEM codes. Flight tests were conducted to obtain the behavior of penetrator and these data were used to estimate penetration ability and aerodynamic characteristics. We expect that our results can be used to predict the characteristics of penetrator and to determine optimized EFPs
