FAST-RUNNING MODEL FOR THE PENETRATION PERFORMANCE OF NON-IDEAL SHAPED CHARGE JETS AND INTERACTION WITH ERA

A. Palfelt, A. Helte, T. Ost

Abstract

In this paper, an analytical model for the penetration of a shaped charge jet is presented, and it is shown that the model is able to predict the penetration of a jet to a high degree when compared to experimental data. The model takes inspiration from already existing models for jet penetration such as HIPEN. The model is designed to be fast enough to be useful as a tool with Monte Carlo simulations, but detailed enough to handle various types of targets and target configurations, including explosive reactive armor. The non-ideality of real jets is also modeled to improve the model’s accuracy at longer standoff and to estimate the variation in the penetration.
