GRID DEPENDENCE OF JET CUT-OFF VELOCITY IN SHAPED CHARGE PENETRATION
Abstract
Estimation of depth of penetration in a Rolled Homogenized Armor (RHA) using numerical simulations is tedious task. The numerical simulations tend to give more depth of penetration than actual. The cut-off velocity is used to compensate this difference. In present work, cutoff velocities are estimated for standard Ballistic Research Laboratory (BRL) shaped charge. The sensitivity of these cut-off velocities to grid size is also studied. Afterwards, these cut-off velocities are used to estimate depth of penetration of in-house shaped charge and compared with experimental results which are in close agreement with estimated value.
