Study on the Natural Fragmentation Formed by Metal Cylinder Explosion
Abstract
This paper presents numerical simulation and experimental results of the natural fragmentation formed by metal cylinder explosion. To simulate fragmentation behavior using the commercial code Autodyn-3D, the reliable two parameters for Mott’s stochastic failure model must be determined in advance. To determine these parameters, we designed SCM440 cylinder filled with TNT to experiment fragmentation behavior because warheads for natural fragmentation are generally designed similarly to cylindrical shape. Using the fragmentation shapes and mass distribution of experiment results, we determined the parameters for Mott’s model. We expect that these results can be used to estimate fragmentation behavior and to design fragmentation warhead.
