Abstract

In order to research the combustion characteristic of high-energy nitramine gun propellant with plasma ignition, a series of experiments was conducted. These included ignition ablation experiment, interrupted combustion experiment, closed vessel experiment with different charge voltage and ignition modes of nitramine gun propellant on plasma. A plasma ignition burning law of high-energy nitramine gun propellants was found based on the analyses of experimentation results. The results show that the plasma jet ablated the gun propellant. Many tiny holes formed on the surface of the gun propellant after the impact of plasma. There is almost no delay time of ignition under the 7.89kV of charge. The pressure in chamber rises to 10MPa quickly. Also the gun propellant burns completely. On the pressure-time curve there is an inflexion near the 10 MPa data point. The gun propellant is ignited by the mixture of plasma and the ablation resultants. The gun propellant can be ignited completely, simultaneously, instantaneously under the impact of high energy plasma.
