An Investigation into Enhanced Fire Control Systems for Moving Vehicles
Abstract
As the agility of military vehicles improves and the need to fire more accurately on the move increases there is a need to consider enhancements to the fire control system. This work examines the possibility of combining together a weapon control simulation with a gun dynamics simulation. The initial conditions for the gun dynamics model are obtained from the weapon control simulation, which includes vehicle motions, at shot start. In this initial investigation it is shown that there is a 1.2 mrad standard deviation from a control case, which has no initial gun motion. The conclusion from this work is that there is a possible benefit of enhancing the fire control system by combining together the gun motions in determining the time to initiate the firing of the gun.
