Modeling the Ignition of Insensitive Propellant by a Nanothermite Igniter
Abstract
The use of insensitive propellants for propelling Low Vulnerability Ammunitions (LoVA) requires a appropriate ignition system for preserving interior ballistics performances. This paper presents the upgrading of the French Interior Ballistics code Mobidic in order to render the dynamics of ignition and combustion of insensitive propellant ignited with nanothermites. This upgrade consists in a set of numerical models whose parameterizing allows rendering the experimentally observed phenomena.
