Multiscale Fatigue Modeling of Composite Materials
Abstract
In this paper an experimental procedure for determining the in-situ matrix response in fatigue, to be used in a micro-mechanics framework, is described. The procedure utilizes only a [±45] tensile test to back out complete equivalent matrix stress-strain behavior. Quasi-static tests on interrupted fatigue tests were conducted to obtain equivalent matrix response as a function of number of cycles and stress ratio. The result of the test procedure is an easy to implement formulation of the in-situ matrix response, in a multi-scale modeling framework.
