Optimal Paths for Steered Fibers in a Composite Laminate with a Stress Raiser
Abstract
This study provides techniques used to model steered fibers while considering manufacturing constraints. An example of a flat laminate with a circular cut out is used to demonstrate the method of placing AFP tows around the hole. Using Bézier curves it is possible to define the path of fibers in a parametric fashion. This helps in reducing the number of variables used to optimize the path so as to reduce stress concentration arising due to a circular cut out or other geometric discontinuities
