Free Edge Effect in Multi-directional Laminate under Uniaxial Loading
Abstract
In this paper, a generalized plane strain model capable of predicting interface stresses is developed. The analysis of free edge stresses of composite laminates subjected to uniform axial strain by using the generalized plane strain model developed with help of commercially available FEA software Abaqus. The results are compared with previously published results and 3D analysis to validate the model. This model can predict the interlaminar stresses accurately and can be used as a computational tool to predict the interlaminar stresses of different laminate under mechanical loading.
