Piezoelectric (PZT) transducers have been extensively used in structural health monitoring (SHM) due to their light weight, low power consumption, electromechanical coupling (both as sensors and actuators), wide range of working frequencies and operational temperature. The aim of SHM is to move from scheduled based maintenance to condition based maintenance by constantly monitoring the state of the structure. In this work, an SHM platform based on PZT transducers is presented with both passive and active sensing capabilities.
