Abstract

To improve the understanding of the damage detection by cumulative higher harmonic Lamb waves in isotropic as well as in composite structures numerical simulations are essential. Based on hyperelastic material models for isotropic material a strain energy function is developed for transversely isotropic material. Therefore an existing linear potential is extended to a nonlinear strain energy function by adding a compressibility term without using the modified strain invariants for a separation of the volumetric and isochoric part. To validate this material model tensile and shear tests are performed. Finally the wave propagation is analyzed and compared to the wave propagation in a linear elastic wave guide. It is shown that the presented material model can be used to simulate the higher harmonic generation in transversely isotropic material. Furthermore the nonlinear effect can be influenced by modifying the material parameter.
