Abstract

A localization algorithm for multi-impact based on probability of direction (POD) calculation is presented in this paper. When multi-impact loads are applied on platelike structures, the direction information of incoming waves is obtained by Lamb wave responses of each Metal-core Piezoelectric Fiber (MPF) rosette. Then, Bayes’ theorem is used to build the probabilistic relationship between measured direction information and unknown impact locations. Finally, POD of each impact is estimated using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method according to three voltage responses in one MPF rosette. By fusing the information from three MPF rosettes, positions of multiple impacts can be imaged through a digital intensity graph. An experimental study for an aluminum plate is conducted to validate the proposed multiimpact localization strategy. The results show that the proposed method can give an accurate identification without the use of any information about the wave velocity or structural properties.
