Tensor Model for Dynamic Damage of Ductile Metals Over a Wide Range of Strain Rates

X. HUANG

Abstract

Based on Ilyushin damage theory, the damage tensor for deformation at high strain rate was divided into volumetric and deviatoric part. The volumetric damage describes microvoid behavior and deviatoric damage characterizes shear failure. Thermodynamics of irreversible processes in consideration of damage was applied. The Gurson model is used for characterizing volumetric damage and strain accumulation damage model for deviatoric damage. The presented model is applicable to analysis of ductile failure over a wide range of the stress state triaxiality corresponding to wide range of strain rates from quasistatic tension to high rates of strain, even to high pressure shock.
