Experimental Investigation on the Energy Absorption of Foam Aluminum Cylinder at Moderate Deformation Rate
Abstract
The steel shell, foam aluminum cylinder and foam aluminum filled steel shell were tested using drop hammer to study their energy absorption characteristics at moderate deformation rate. The results showed that the foam aluminum-copper alloy exhibits typical brittleness. The energy absorption capability of the steel shell with circumferential notches was weaker than that without notches. The foam aluminum filled steel shell possessed strong capability of energy absorption due to the combination of steel shell and filled materials.
