Abstract

Selected results of practical tests of 5,56 mm MSBS (Modular Small arms System) rifles are included within this paper. The main task was to compare operational parameters of standard rifles configurated in different layouts: classic (with butt stock) and bull-pup. It was the first time, such tests were possible since both rifles belonged to the same weapon system. It can be assumed, that all noticed differences are caused by specific layout difference. Practical tests includes typical tactical situation e.g. dynamic firing, changing magazine in different positions and emergency procedures: misfire (dud, failure to feed) and mechanical malfunctions (failure to eject, double feed). The measured parameter was time spent to fire the next shoot. It should be considered that this parameter determines the soldier's survivability on the battlefield. The tests were realized as part of a research and development project No O ROB 0034 03 001 financed by the National Research and Development Centre.
