Research on the Application of Insensitive Explosives in High Explosive Warhead

Abstract


In order to enhance the insensitivity of ammunition, the numerical simulation and experimental verification of the prefabricated tungsten sphere fragments driven by TKX-50 and TKX-50+RDX explosives after detonation are carried out under the condition of whether or not there are liners in the high explosive (HE) warhead. The ability of two insensitive explosives (IE) to drive prefabricated tungsten sphere fragments is obtained, and are compared to the warhead performance with JO-8 explosives. The results show that the structural integrity of prefabricated tungsten sphere fragments is greatly improved by adding inner liner in the warhead, and the maximum dispersion velocity of fragments is slightly higher than that of the structure without an inner liner. At the same time, the tungsten sphere fragments driven by TKX-50, TKX-50+RDX and JO-8 explosives can effectively penetrate the preset distance. The ability to drive fragments by three kinds of explosives is basically the same.
