Study on the Forming Performance of Central Perforated EFP Warhead

WENYU NIU, FANG WANG, ZHANDONG WANG

Abstract

The central perforated EFP warhead was usually used in the terminal sensitive projectiles because of the compact structural configuration requirements. In this paper, the influence of this structure on the forming processes of EFP was studied and discussed. The EFP forming process of the central perforated liner and the traditional hemispherical liner were numerically simulated respectively by Autodyn software. The head velocity and lengthdiameter ratio of both EFPs were compared and analyzed. Secondly, the influence of circular initiation mode on the EFP forming performance was studied. The numerical results shown that the larger the radius of circular initiation, the larger the EFP aspect ratio and the higher the overall EFP speed.
