Shaped Precursor-Charge for a Multi-Effects Warhead System
Abstract
A tandem Multi-Effect Warhead (MEW) was developed. The warhead comprised a Shaped Precursor-Charge (SPC) having two tasks: perforating structural wall targets for a follow through penetrator and clearing explosive reactive armor (ERA) targets. Two concepts for this SPC were pursued: a classical Cu-liner shaped charge (MILAN) and a nonconventional Al/Mg-liner shaped charge (STABO). The investigations for these two SCs covered both the initiation behavior of an ERA and its SC jet performance degradation effects. Two generic ERA targets were used in this study one with faster and one with slower flying plates. The inclination angle was varied between 0° and 70°. Also the effects of inert ERAs were considered.
