RVE Models with Various Filler Morphology for What-if Analysis of Random Heterogeneous Materials

Abstract


This paper presents development of representative volume element (RVE) models of random heterogeneous materials with various filler geometries and applications. The 3D network of filler within RVE is controlled using random distribution, probability distribution functions using image analysis, uniform grid and close packing algorithms. The 3D RVE models generated with filler geometries and viable computational models of various composite systems based on input filler morphology can be used to predict continuum properties of random heterogeneous materials for various applications. Various algorithms used in the RVE model generation rely on filler-to-filler compatibility and contact. The 3D network of fillers within RVE models and their seamless integration with analytical tools, 3D solid modeling and finite element analysis are presented with different filler geometry and morphology for what-if analysis to quantify continuum properties in different applications.
