Additively Manufactured Silica Matrix Composite Structures

PADMALATHA KAKANURU, KISHORE POCHIRAJU

Abstract

Additive manufacturing of preceramic resin has given a way to manufacture complex shaped ceramic parts, which is not possible with the conventional manufacturing methods. In this study, the geometry and microstructure studies were conducted on silica filled photoreactive resin specimens in terms of ceramic yield and dimensional stability. It was evident from the studies that about 66% of ceramic yield can be achieved at a cost of around 34% volume shrinkage with this resin. This study paves way for designing the process parameters and material composition to additively manufacture high quality CMC structures.
